Nonprofit Fundraising gala Auction in the round Returning client

An auction called from the center of the dance floor — so every seat in the room was the front row.

WHAT THIS SHOWS · FUNDRAISING PRODUCTION BUILT AROUND THE ASK: for the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School annual fundraising gala, Space City Pro designed and produced an immersive in-the-round auction experience — a custom branded dance floor at the center of the room doubling as the auction stage, audio engineered so the auctioneer could work the whole space, dynamic lighting that moved the night from dinner to auction to celebration, a massive LED wall, and live digital bidding that kept every table in the action. A returning engagement we design and support year over year.

01 · THE BRIEF

A school gala lives or dies on one stretch of the night: the ask. Everything we designed pointed at that moment.

St. Anthony of Padua’s annual gala funds the school’s mission, and the room is full of families who came to give — if the night earns it. The brief was an auction experience that pulled the whole room in, with no bad seats and no dead air between the paddle and the pledge.

The answer was to stop staging the auction at the front of the room and put it where the energy already was: the center.

BRIEF · ONE LINE

Build the night around the ask.

An in-the-round auction from the middle of the room, live digital bidding at every table, and a lighting and video design that moves the energy from dinner to auction to celebration without a hard cut.

02 · THE ROOM

A custom branded dance floor at the center — the gala’s logo underfoot, and the auction stage disguised as the party.

The centerpiece was a custom branded dance floor: the event’s identity printed into the middle of the room, working as dinner ambience first, auction stage second, and dance floor last. One build, three acts.

A massive LED wall carried the program — the school’s story, the live auction lots, the energy moments — while dynamic lighting across the entire space did the scene changes: warm through dinner, focused and bright for the auction, saturated for the celebration after. The room never went dark for a changeover; it simply became the next version of itself.

03 · THE ASK

The auctioneer worked from the dance floor, in the round — and the audio had to be flawless in every direction.

In-the-round auctioneering is an audio problem before it’s anything else. The auctioneer faces every direction over the course of a lot, the room is loud, and a single unintelligible number kills momentum. We engineered the system so the call landed clean at every table, 360 degrees around the floor.

Live digital bidding kept the whole room in the auction. Guests bid from their seats as the numbers moved, which does two things a paddle alone can’t: it removes the distance between impulse and action, and it lets the room feel the momentum build in real time.

PRINCIPLE · NO BAD SEATS

When the stage is the center of the room, every seat is close.

In-the-round staging trades the comfort of a front wall for proximity — and proximity is what an ask needs. The production’s job is to make that trade free: clean audio in every direction, sightlines over the floor, and light that follows the moment.

04 · THE RESULT

The school asked us back. For an annual fundraiser, that’s the metric that compounds.

We’ve designed and supported this gala across multiple years — a returning engagement where each edition builds on what the last one learned about the room, the crowd, and the ask.

It’s also the model we bring to every fundraising client, at every scale: production design that serves the money moment, not the gear list. The dance floor, the LED, the lighting, and the bidding platform all existed for one reason — to make it easy for a room full of supporters to say yes.
